Water, a vital element with a fundamental role for the skin

However, its level does not remain constant throughout the day or throughout life. Many internal or environmental factors intervene and potentially dehydrate the epidermis. The water balance in cells, or water homeostasis, is therefore essential to their physiological integrity.

What is dehydrated skin?

Indeed, dehydration is a skin condition and not a type of skin like dry skin can be. It is therefore a reversible state (and fortunately!) because the skin is simply lacking in water. Why is my skin dehydrated?

It is in particular because of many environmental factors that the skin becomes dehydrated. If you are not careful, variations in natural or experienced climatic conditions (hot or cold, air conditioning or heating), prolonged or unprotected sun exposure and even the application of cosmetic treatments with non-synthetic ingredients compatible with the skin, help to damage the hydrolipidic barrier which protects the epidermis from transepidermal water loss (PIE).
